I used to think that I was bad at delegating because...
...every task I delegated ended up back on my desk and it took so long to explain what I wanted done that it was usually quicker to do it myself. Then I got a REALLY good assistant, she just "got" what it was I wanted, she engaged with what I was asking her to do and asked sensible questions. She remembered how to do things, paid attention and used her initiative. Suddenly, delegating wasn't a chore and tasks disappeared from my to do list, usually before I even knew they needed doing because she'd taken ownership and dealt with them. I was able to get on with the big ticket projects that needed my attention.
This is when I realised, I wasn't bad at delegating, or a control freak (well maybe a bit), I'd just been delegating to the wrong people.
I know from experience how easy it is to become the bottle-neck in your business, the only person who knows how all the pieces fit together - but I also know how liberating it is when you find the right person to delegate to and everything clicks into place.

Experience
I work with funded startups and SME's because I love the energy and passion you find there, corporate process following is not my thing. I think on my feet and balance "done properly" with "good enough".
As right-hand woman to the demanding MD of a creative and production agency for 18 years, I learned the ropes of how to grow a business from the ground up. And got thrown plenty of curve balls along the way. I oversaw all aspects of business operations including premises, HR, finance, business admin, contract negotiations and IT, as well as project managing photoshoots, events; launching new divisions and service offerings; and supporting mergers, demergers and acquisitions.
In 2018 I set up my business Katy Can! providing startup Founders, CEO's & MD's the right person to delegate their business operations to.

The best way to get to know me is to book a call, but in summary:
- Keen runner... but not that keen... no marathons yet
- 2 kids (thankfully well past toddler stage now!)
- Studied drama (and English) and sometimes this shows (daaaarling)
